THE CLASSES

At the Summer Film Camp, your child will take 5 different classes! Students are grouped by age and form production teams to film their projects. Each of the classes that your child will take daily are outlined below:

SCREENWRITING

Discover how to draft treatments, format screenplays and draw storyboards as you write your own scripts! This class is designed to give your child the fundamental building blocks for structuring a compelling 3 act narrative. In teaching the essential elements of writing a script, students are shown how to properly create treatments, format a screenplay and create storyboards off their script.

DIRECTING

From camera blocking to character development, learn the key skills every director needs when shooting! One of our most popular classes, this course teaches the students the fundamental principles behind directing. Designed to provide the students with a solid foundation in film directing, the curriculum focuses heavily on staging, framing, blocking and character relationships.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

Work with HD digital cameras as you explore shot composition, camera movement, framing and lighting! In this class, students are given a chance to learn the key elements of cinematography including exposure, aperture, shutter speed, shot sizes, camera angles and camera moves! Students are also taught how to create a shot list based on a script as well as the different positions on a cinematography crew.

EDITING

Finish your film as you learn how to edit, add effects, graphics and titles using Adobe Premiere Pro CC! In this class, students are taught how to assemble a film using the footage captured by the director. Special attention is paid to parallel editing (or cross cutting), along with the different kinds of transitions available when editing a film.

PRODUCTION

Immerse yourself in the movie making process as you take your film from first storyboard to the final cut! The production class allows students to work on two different projects: a commercial and a short film. Each day, students are given three hours to focus exclusively on their project under the direct mentorship of our teachers. A copy of the final product is sent home with the camper for their family to enjoy.
